Less Weight, More Power
The DXR mkII Series features custom-designed transducers that have been meticulously selected and customized to deliver ultimate performance. The high power output woofers have low distortion and deep bass, while the larger, yet lighter 1.75†Neodymium precision HF compression drivers produce accurate midrange and high frequencies up to 20 kHz. The speakers also feature a wide dispersion constant directivity horn, designed to minimize radiation pattern deterioration in oblique directions. This horn creates a more rectangular coverage pattern of 90° horizontal x 60° vertical and projects wide-frequency sound to the edges of the coverage area, achieving a more ideal coverage area without irregularities.
The Power of "D"
The development team of the DXR mkII Series used a number of advanced digital technologies based on Yamaha's extensive experience in developing professional audio equipment. These technologies include detailed management of crossover, EQ, and time alignment, as well as limiter settings, protection functions and precise dynamic control of the sound. The speakers were subject to extensive simulation, in-house and field testing to ensure they produce the highest level of sound quality at the highest output levels possible. The speakers also use Yamaha's advanced analog signal processing and acoustic technologies, resulting in the "Power of D" which delivers ultimate performance.
Ultra-Precise 48Bit DSP Processing for High-Definition Sound
All full-range models of the DXR mkII Series feature Yamaha's proprietary FIR-X tuningâ„¢, which utilizes linear phase FIR filters for the crossover network. This technology optimizes frequency and phase response while adjusting the time alignment between the HF and LF transducers, resulting in a smooth response around the crossover point and improved clarity and imaging. The speakers also feature a high-performance 48-bit (76-bit accumulator) processor for high-definition sound quality and use high-precision 24-bit discrete A/D and D/A converters with superior S/N ratio and dynamic range.
Intelligent Dynamic Control for Consistent Clarity at Any Output Level
D-CONTOUR is an intelligent multi-band compressor feature on the DXR mkII Series, which provides powerful and consistent sound throughout all output levels. It constantly monitors the output of multiple frequency bands and calculates the optimum EQ adjustments for each to maintain clarity and musicality even at maximum sound output. The DXR series has two different settings for D-CONTOUR: FOH/MAIN mode and MONITOR mode. FOH/MAIN mode boosts low-frequency to compensate for low-end that is typically missing when speakers are used in suspended applications or mounted on a speaker stand. MONITOR mode is optimized for floor monitor application by intelligently taming down the low-frequency that adds up due to floor reflection, smoothing out a wide range of frequency bands to give you stunning clarity for monitoring your sound. Both of these presets were perfected by performing countless listening tests with skilled sound engineers, giving you a multi-band compressor that performs dynamically, delivering consistent sound with low distortion at any output level.
Extensive DSP Protection Functions for Maximum Output
The DXR mkII Series is an active loudspeaker, which means that the combination of transducers and amplifiers is perfectly optimized. The development team measured and tested the durability of each transducer and the overall amp output through countless indoor and outdoor listening tests to set the optimal limiter point for each model using precise DSP control. The speakers also employ protection functions similar to those used in Yamaha's top-class TXn Series professional power amplifiers. A microprocessor and high-power DSP monitor the status of the power supply, power amplifiers, transducers and ongoing signals to protect all aspects of each component, ensuring reliable operation in even the most severe conditions. Additionally, the full-range models and DXS speakers have a switchable white front LED that illuminates when powered and varies in brightness depending on the amount of system limiting.
High-Efficiency 1100W Class-D Amplifiers
The DXR mkII Series loudspeakers are equipped with highly efficient Class-D amplifiers that are optimally designed to match the HF and LF transducers of the speakers. These high-performance amplifiers deliver the highest sound output in their class, with 1100W of power and an SPL of up to 134dB. They also provide very fast attack and superior transient response, which greatly contribute to the speakers' audio performance. The speakers also employ a universal switching-mode power supply that is high-efficient and suitable for use worldwide with its multi-voltage design.
Intelligent Onboard 3-Channel Mixer
The DXR mkII Series features a flexible onboard mixer with a variety of inputs, making it ideal for simple vocal/instrument amplification. The mixer has flexible IN/OUT options, allowing it to be used as a standalone sound reinforcement system or integrated into a setup using DZR or DXS Series speakers. The mixer can handle up to three simultaneous inputs and accept both mic and line level input, providing flexibility to connect to a variety of sources. Each channel has an individual volume control, allowing you to mix three discrete audio sources. The speaker also features flexible HPF control to match with DXS subwoofers and Smart Mixing/Linking functions such as THRU out, which passes the input signal from Channel 1, and LINK OUT, which sends mixed signal from all channels, for daisy-chaining or routing the signal to another destination. The Link mode allows you to easily switch between stereo or dual-mono configurations.
Durable, Compact ABS Enclosures
The DXR mkII Series features rugged, non-resonant ABS enclosures that are designed to dampen vibrations caused by high output levels, resulting in less distortion and superior sonic quality. The enclosures are road-tested and equipped with heavy-duty steel grilles and ergonomic, gripped aluminum handles for improved durability and portability. The design of the speakers is optimized for withstanding the rigors of touring and live events, ensuring long-lasting reliability and performance.
Symmetrical Enclosure Design for Mirror-Mode Floor Monitoring
The DXR15mkII and DXR12mkII's enclosure design allows for mirror-mode monitor placement, which creates a symmetrical sound field for the performer and a larger, more defined "sweet spot." This feature is particularly useful for floor monitoring, as it can be used in either a balanced dual-mono configuration or a stereo monitor mix setup. By using mirror-mode floor monitoring, the performance can be greatly enhanced by providing a more defined soundstage for the performer.
Dual-Angle Pole Mount Socket
The DXR mkII Series features a pole mount socket that offers two positions - 0° and 7° - which can be used to direct the acoustic energy away from reflective surfaces such as low ceilings and onto the audience, improving the listening experience. This is particularly useful in venues where the mix can be affected by room attributes that impede a clear, even mix. By adjusting the pole mount socket, you can optimize the speaker's output and ensure that the audience receives the best possible sound.
Rigging Points for Standard Eye-Bolts and Optional U-Brackets
The DXR mkII Series loudspeakers come equipped with rigging points, allowing for rigged applications with standard eyebolts (not included). This feature provides a secure and easy way to hang the speakers in various configurations, such as in a suspended installation or mounted on a speaker stand. When more versatility is required, optional U-brackets can be used to allow for simple and easy rigging in both horizontal and vertical configurations, making it possible to install the speakers in a variety of situations.
